Normal Operation

Compose Screen

The Compose Screen appears after the Configuration Screen the first time Doc2email is run. On second and subsequent times, the Compose screen is displayed immediately:

This allows you to enter the recipient's email address and a subject. The recipient's email address can be typed in, or selected from the address book. Touch the Contacts button to display the address book.

The body of the email cannot be changes and currently says, "Sent by Doc2email from my iPhone" and has the image as an attachment.

Camera

After the Compose page is dismissed, the iPhone camera appears for you to take a photograph of the page of the document:

There is a yellow "level bubble" in the center of the screen. If the iPhone is positioned so that the bubble is on the target in the center of the screen, the iPhone will be perfectly horizontal and, if the paper being photographed is also flat, will remove any perspective distortion. Pressing the Cancel button is taken as an indication that you want to send to a new recipient, so the Compose screen is re-displayed, see the top of this page. If the green button is pressed, the Preview screen appears:

This allows you to preview the picture you have taken and either retake it or accept it. Ignore the level bubble, which appears on the preview screen: it will not appear on the final photograph. If you reject the image, the camera will be displayed again. If you accept the image, the Preview screen will disappear and the Doc2email screen will be re-displayed with the busy indicator running:

Black and White Display

Once the image processing has finished, if you are sending in Black and White format, the image is displayed again, only this time in the new format:

The image can be zoomed and paned using the usual iPhone touch methods (two finger pinch-close gesture and single finger swipe), so you can check the quality of the image:

There are 4 buttons:

  • Retake

The image is rejected by pressing the Retake button, in which case the camera will be re-displayed

  • <

This is a brightness control button that darkens the image. It can be used as many times as required. The amount that the image is darkened is controlled by the increment parameter in the settings; it can be changed in the Settings application: see the Settings page of this user manual.

  • >

This is the other brightness control button that lightens the image. Again, it can be used as many times as required. The amount that the image is lightened is controlled by the increment parameter in the settings; it can be changed in the Settings application: see the Settings page of this user manual.

A segment of the image can also be lightened by a single tap on the segment. The image is divided into 9 segments: 3 across by 3 down. Tap on any segment and only that segment will be lightened. Again, the amount that the image is lightened is controlled by the increment parameter in the settings.

  • Use Image
You accept the image by pressing the Use Image button. If you accept the image, the image display will be dismissed and the progress screen will appear:

This will show you the steps the application is going through and end up indicating the size of the file being transmitted. When the transmission is complete, the Progress screen will be dismissed and the camera re-displayed again for the next page.
