To:

The To: field contains the email address Doc2email used to send a document to the last time it was used

Color

The Color field allows you to choose the format of the image to send. It can be one of 3 different types:
    • Black and White
    • Grayscale
    • Color

Black and White

A black and white image consists of only black and white pixels, no gray. It is similar to a fax image and the file format used to send them is TIFF. The file size is very small and is usually in the range of 35K to 80K bytes. The size varies because of the compression used. If the image contains many black dots, the image will be bigger. As it is so small, its transmission time is very short. Also, this is the format used by OCR software to extract the text from the image. This is the usual format used with Doc2email and is the format setup for use when the application is installed. If the document or sheet of paper is laying on a desk with a wooden or dark colored surface, the black and white image will have a black border. If the image is not skewed to much, the black border will be removed and the image straightened before transmission. Also, the image will be rotated right 90 degrees, so an image of a sheet of letter sized paper will appear in the correct orientation. The image is not rotated for the grayscale and color formats.

Grayscale

Grayscale images contain gray pixels in addition to black and white ones. A grayscale image looks like a black and white photograph. It is considerably larger than a black and white image (see above) but smaller than a color image. It is typically in the range of 1M - 1.8M bytes, which is about 25 times larger. The transmission time is correspondingly longer. The file format used for grayscale images in PNG, which is a lossless format. This means that it is bigger than some other formats, but there is no degradation in the image as there would be with JPEG.

Color

The iPhone camera takes color pictures, so sending the image in color means that it is sent in exactly the same form as it comes out of the camera. This format is the largest of the three, being about 3.5M - 5.0M bytes, which is almost 4 times larger than a grayscale image and takes that much longer to transmit. As it takes so long to transmit the full color image, it is not recommended that you use this without a WiFi connection.

Increment

This is the amount the black and white image is darkened or lightened when the < or > buttons are pressed or when a segment of the black and white image is tapped.

Number

The image file is sent as an attachment with a file name imagennnn.tif or imagennnn.png. The nnnn is a number consisting of 4 digits, with the leading ones being zero. The number is increased by one each time an image is sent. The number in the Number field is the next number to be used. typically, the user never has to touch this number. However, the number sequence can be reset is required by changing this field.
